Full QnA
- What is the event and the opportunity for companies?
In advance of the annual OECD Global Strategy Group meeting on Futures of Global AI Governance – Co-creating an Approach for transforming Economies and Societies on October 15, Business at OECD (BIAC) is hosting a Business Day side-event on October 14 to bring together a selected number of business leaders and High-Level Officials from OECD and Global Partnership of Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) members and OECD accession countries. The objectives are to create an open discussion between government and private sectors to share experiences, learnings, challenges, risks and opportunities. There will be three parts of the side-event on October 14: AM for keynotes and panels; PM for Exhibition – interactive learning experience; Cocktail for networking. The exhibition will allow 20-25 companies to participate in an exhibition to showcase concrete examples of AI solutions and their implementation across sectors and to discuss with High-Level Officials of 50 countries and OECD staff.
- What is the OECD Global Strategy Group?
The OECD Global Strategy Group (GSG) is an annual meeting which brings together High-Level Officials from OECD members and accession countries as well as from selected non-OECD member countries and other international organizations to discuss global megatrends and how the Organization can support countries in dealing with future challenges and opportunities.
- What are the details of the exhibition?
The exhibition will be open from October 14 at noon until October 15 at 18h00 to allow for Government representatives and OECD staff to engage with companies. The center of the OECD Convention center will provide space for up to 25 companies for booths to showcase their know-how in AI. This open and easily accessible space will be open for both days. However, the afternoon of October 14, will be dedicated for GSG participants and BIAC companies to engage with AI companies in an interactive format (details will be shared with the agenda of the BIAC session).
This event is not a trade show but rather a hub of expertise to discuss the future of Artificial Intelligence. For companies, it is a valuable opportunity to showcase their AI capabilities, share insights, and engage in meaningful discussions with key policymakers and other industry leaders.
The idea is to book up to 25 booths maximum; note that several member countries have already expressed interest (including so far: Belgium, Canada, France, Greece, Israel, Spain, US).
- What kind of companies are targeted?
We are targeting the best companies of our ecosystem in the field of AI (big and small) identified by OECD member countries to represent the following key sectors which will impact the evolution of our society:
- Science, technology and innovation
- Employment, education and skills, and social policy
- Healthcare
- Economic growth and productivity
- Financial markets and international trade
- Development
- Public sector.
- Why is it important for companies to participate?
The private sector plays a vital role in the development of AI, driving innovation in new technologies that have applicability across many sectors, and require substantial investments. Private sector engagement is crucial to spread the benefits of AI more broadly in our economies and societies, help develop global standards and best practices, create a stable economic environment for investment, identify and mitigate risks, and foster trust and understanding among countries as they consider AI governance.
- What are the opportunities?
The OECD Business Day event provides a unique opportunity for companies to meet and discuss with leading high-level policy makers from over fifty countries the concrete applications of AI, as well as business needs and challenges.
It offers access to OECD, the leading AI policy and standards making organization, to better understand key considerations in shaping policies and discuss their impact on business innovation in this field.
Companies will have the chance to demonstrate the transformative nature of AI innovation to provide improved productivity, services delivery, operations and efficiencies in key sectors.
- Is there a fee? What are the advantages of having a booth?
Pricing for having a booth at the exhibition will range between 1500 and 3500 euros for both days depending on what type of booth companies wish to have and what they intend to bring on their own.
Participation to the OECD BIAC event (panels, cocktail) to be held on Monday 14 October is free and your company will be invited to participate (agenda will be sent when finalized).
- Selection considerations
Member states can propose up to 2 companies. The idea is to reach a final mix with various companies' sizes (small, medium and big ones) and from cross-sectors as referred to in section 4 above. As per usual practice, a reputational risk assessment will also have to be done by the OECD Secretariat before confirming invitation and participation.
There is a need to inform the co-chairs of the GSG (Canada and Greece) and the OECD Secretariat of potential companies before formally inviting them, to allow for the OECD reputational risk assessment process to be conducted and to ensure diversity of sectors. We should confirm within a month the confirmed companies, where upon a formal invitation can be sent.
