Securing the Future: AI as a Key Topic for the Next Federal Government Program AI Agenda 2025
Vienna, February 25, 2025 – The future of the Austrian economy is at stake. Artificial Intelligence is not just a technological innovation, but a fundamental pillar for economic growth, social stability, and international competitiveness. AI can increase productivity, make companies more resilient, and create new jobs. At the same time, it helps to upskill the existing workforce and alleviate the acute shortage of skilled labor. After two years of recession, a dramatic shortage of skilled workers, and structural deficits, the incoming federal government must finally act. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers the decisive solutions to get Austria back on a growth path.
"Artificial Intelligence is the most important technological development of our time and is at the top of the agenda for governments worldwide. The incoming federal government must see it as an opportunity for the future to secure and strengthen Austria as a location for business and research," emphasizes Clemens Wasner, AI Austria.
Key Demands for the Incoming Federal Government:
- Tax Incentives for AI Startups & National AI Innovation Fund: Financial support to foster the startup ecosystem.
- Doubling of AI Professorships by 2027 & National AI Education Program: Strengthening academic and public expertise.
- Austria Digitized: TOP 5 by 2030 through Infrastructure & Competencies: A target to rank among the leading digital nations.
- Independent AI Ministry with Budget & Action Plan: Dedicated political leadership and resources.
"We need a clear action plan with binding measures to secure Austria's competitiveness in the long term. Education, research, and application must be prioritized now," demands Mathias Lipp, AI Empowered Politics.
The key demands have already been submitted to the negotiating teams of the ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS. The incoming federal government must take decisive action to keep Austria internationally competitive. Without targeted investments in AI, the country risks falling behind. Therefore, clear political decisions are required to actively shape the digital transformation and bring Austria to the forefront of technological development.
"Other countries like Estonia or Denmark show that innovative strength does not depend on size, but on clear political decisions. Austria cannot afford to miss this opportunity," warns Matthias Grabner, AI Austria.
